our story

Hatzell Drafting & Interior Design, otherwise known as HDID, began in 2018 with our fearless leader, Lisa Hatzell, and her home. This was the first whole home project completed; and, with it came rave reviews. It was a project we still hold near and dear to our hearts, as it helped get our business up and running at full speed – and we haven’t looked back since!

Debbie joined HDID in August of 2020, 4 years after HDID’s inception. Before joining HDID, Debbie worked for the local town as clerk treasurer for 12 years; she retired from this position in 2019.

Sydney was “drafted” by Lisa and joined the HDID team in 2023. From a young age, Sydney always had an interest in Architecture, but never did she think that she could get this much experience before even attending college.

Drafter / Interior Designer

In 2012, after teaching for 13 years and yearning to be a designer for 10 of them, Lisa decided to follow her heart and take a leap of faith. She quit her teaching job and worked tirelessly to get her Interior Design degree.

She often says, “With God, all things are possible”. In 2012, she spent every day traveling back and forth to Ball State University to obtain her degree. In the meantime, she was busy raising 3 growing boys and doing her best to be a supportive wife to her husband who was also following his dreams and starting his own business as well. It was tiresome and it was difficult, but it was most certainly worth it.

Lisa graduated with her Interior Design degree in 2016 and started HDID in 2018. 

Lisa has an innate desire to make sure everyone is always comfortable. Whether it’s baking warm cookies for friends or inviting a neighbor in for supper, she can always be found sharing her time and talents with others.

This same attitude can be said for the way she interacts with her clients. She believes that when her clients are in their homes, it should be a home filled with all the things that bring them pure joy – from the layout of the home to the artwork thoughtfully hanging on the wall. Lisa believes that the home should always “live” around the homeowner. She also believes the outside of a home is just as important as the inside – calling homeowners to connect with visitors.

Lisa enjoys working with the contractors and builders on-site to help resolve any situations, such as trim work and the application of materials. What brings her the most joy at the end of a project is hearing her clients speak about how much they value the work she does for them.

Debbie joined HDID in August of 2020, 4 years after HDID’s inception. Before joining HDID, Debbie worked for the local town as clerk treasurer for 12 years; she retired from this position in 2019. After being retired for only 8 months, Debbie felt she still had so much more to offer to the workforce with her 30 years of experience and knowledge. And we whole-heartedly agree!

Working for HDID became an ideal situation as Debbie lives 0.1 mile away from the business! Never did Debbie dream she’d be working for such a company by working on construction documents, watching projects unfold, and witnessing the joy that HDID is able to bring to many clients.

Debbie is our numbers girl. She handles all of the daily accounting, as well as many other odds-and-ends tasks. Her favorite part of her job, besides drinking copious amounts of coffee, is going back to the drawing after the design has been conceptualized and making the numbers “nice” for the contractors and builders.

Drafter / Interior Designer

Sydney was “drafted” by Lisa and joined the HDID team in 2023. From a young age, Sydney always had an interest in architecture, but never did she think that she could get this much experience before even attending college.

Sydney is Lisa’s go-to girl for all things drawing, drafting and printing. Together, after measuring and conceptualizing the design, Lisa and Sydney work to perfect the drawing to its completion.

Sydney is most knowledgeable about HDID’s 3D generated software – knowing all the ins and outs and utilizing it quickly and efficiently – every time. Working with our software and clients at HDID has been a great benefit to Sydney’s career path, as she is studying Architecture and Interior Design.

Sydney’s favorite thing about her job is the drafting process and using our 3D generated software to exceedingly satisfy her creative outlet.
